Transactional analysis is a branch of psychology , a tool composed of a set of ideas, to understand relationships and everyday social circumstances. this helps us to get an understanding of people, and their social behavior and why a person is the way he is.
It is the discovery and invention of a psychiatrist called Eric Berne who wanted to simplify the understanding of the human mind and its problems and to empower patients to participate in the healing process through developing awareness, taking responsibility themselves in an environment where he has the necessary protection needed by individuals.People who want to change, need permission to flip out of their illness as Berne put it and a potent leader and guide who authorizes ,allows and supports a deep change that many need to become autonomous and healthy members of the human race.
well what is it in simple words?
many of us live this life as though the full potential to be a human being has been denied. this is very often due to childhood experiences, over which we may not have had much control or say.
but as adults we have the opportunity to develop certain qualities that we may have forgotten to develop like for eg the child's unerring intution in most social situations, the childlike simple awareness of a natural child, added to an adult's capacity for mature human love.
So this is the goal of Transactional Analysis called shortly as T.A.-TO CREATE AUTONOMOUS INDIVIDUALS ,WHO ARE AWARE OF THEIR SURROUNDINGS AND LIFE SITUATION,ARE SPONTANEOUS IN THEIR PERCEPTION AND ACTIONS,SOCIALLY AND CAPABLE OF INTIMACY IF THE SITUATION DEMANDS .
HOW IS THIS DONE?
People meet in groups periodically having formed a contract at the outset to learn Transactional Analysis. working with this simple contract they meet periodically every fortnight or so sitting in circles, and talk to each other or stay silent.there is a group leader who is usually a man well trained and certified in T.A who provides structure when required by the group members and works as a therapist, counsellor or group leader as the situation demands.although the openly spoken goal is to "get a BTA degree" the unspoken goal is to flip out of negative patterns and grow into an autonomous person ,capable of eidetic awareness, social control and Intimacy.
