quality and not quantity is important in life

the life force in health maintains order and all the parts of the human being function in admirable harmony.
hence we can even say the vital force is intelligent , for it maintains the whole human being in harmony.
note that I said Human being and not human body, for the vitality of a man pervades also his mental and emotional levels not only the physical body.
  •  so one can imagine disease as a form of disharmony.(at least to begin with, as altered health states manifesting as altered sensations in mind and body)
so if a human being is imagined as music issuing from violin, the vital force is the player the artist, and also by a strange quirk the violin and its strings. the vital force is the musician, the music and the musical instrument. for the music to be harmonious , there should be no mistunement. a well tuned violin can be played easily to make good music. here the player is the healthy vital force and the three strings are the mental, emotional and physical levels of the human being.
  • so one can see that disease is a mistunement  of the vital force and healing as  a process of retuning the human being.
qualities of a healthy human being, have to be known  for fine tuning the human being,in health.

George Vithoulkas defines it thus...

  • physical- "freedom from Pain" resulting in a sense of well being and joy
  • emotional-"freedom from passion" and a sense of serenity and dynamic peace and balance
  • mental-"freedom from egotism" resulting in a state of openness to truth , further resulting in creativity, coherence and clarity on the mental levels.
so it is that in disease a human being functions in a inharmonious manner within himself  leading to disharmony with the rest of the world.
In some individuals the disharmony is limited to the physical level, while in mentally ill person the disharmony is deeper. most human being are affected more or less on all three levels.
it thus becomes clear that in order to get a clear picture of disease one has to study the changes in quality of functioning that has taken place in all three levels-mental, emotional and physical.
