well how did Hahnemann come to an understanding about the life force? in fact it did not start with this notion at all , but it was prolonged clinical observation and experience that led him to conjecture this possibility- about the possibilty of a vital force- in order to explain the phenomena he experienced.
what was Hahnemann's experience?

Hahnemann was a straightforward physician , in his simpleheartedness he believed that the physician's only duty is to help heal the sick, to cure. but he saw nothing like that happening. Medicine of his day was barbaric in an open way. patients were bled until they were too weak to produce any symptoms, this was deemed a cure. many other remedies were given in large doses which were often toxic. one such medicine was mercury in cases of syphilis ,the patient was given enough mercury to produce toxic symptoms, and often died of mercury poisoning or suffered terribly from it. also as today any tumors ,warts were excised, and so on without a clear understanding of why they were there in the first place.
Hahnemann being a man of integrity and courage decided that he would not practice in this way and decided to give up practice. you should remember that he had a big and growing family and so he started translation to earn money for his family.he became quite a famous translator. especially since he was a well known chemist he translated many works in chemistry and pharmacology was only one step away. while translating cullen's materia medica he saw some symptoms mentioned under quinine that he doubted. so he decided to do an experiment and took small quantities of quinine every day for a few days. within a few days he had developed an illness or set of symptoms similar to an old illness he had had a few years back in another district of germany. there was fever with chills on and off as described in malaria. then it struck him powerfully that quinine is used as medicine in malaria and other intermittent fevers.
from his wide reading he remembered Hippocrates the great greek physician who had said that a medicine is capable of curing in the diseased what it produces in normal individuals.could this be a universal law? is this how all medicines work the best? these questions haunted him. and he decided to read and experiment more.

- and finally found out that indeed whatever a medicine is capable of producing in normal individuals....if those symptoms appear in a sick individual then that medicine is capable of eradicating the illness from the person.--this is the law of similars
- NOT ONLY ERADICATING THOSE SYMTOMS BUT IN MANY CASES LEAVING THE PATIENT FEELING VERY WELL GENERALLY AND MUCH MORE RELAXED AND FEELING BETTER MENTALLY /EMOTIONALLY.
- he later found out by experience that there was a unique remedy in nature capable of causing the exact same illness in a normal but sensitive person , and that unique remedy if found and given to the ill person , will result in a deep cure producing a greater general. and mental/emotional well being.----this is the process of individualisation.
